Indian Magazines on iPad & Magazine Apps for iPad

Introduction of Apple iPad in  April 2010 revolutionised the manner in which we consume digital content. For the first time media companies have the opportunity to create branded magazines in digital format. These magazines are paperless, flexible, portable and can easily be downloaded with a mouse click. With increasing raw material and distribution costs , it has never made more sense to have your magazine on the iPad platform.

When Wired magazine launched its iPad version in May 2010, a note by editor-in-chief Chris Anderson (available on their website) proclaimed, “The tablet is our opportunity to make the Wired we always dreamed of. It has all the visual impact of paper, enhanced by interactive elements like video and animated infographics. We can offer you a history of Mars landings that lets you explore the red planet yourself. We can take you inside Trent Reznor’s recording studio and let you listen to snippets of his work in progress. And we can show you exactly how Pixar crafted each frame of its new movie, Toy Story 3.”

Other US publications have also been quick to get into the iPad app game.Indian Magazines on iPad came a little late, but it has helped the publishers to leverage their content and helped them distribute not just through the existing distribution models but bring more customers who access content only in digital format, while still making them pay. Distribution of magazines in digital format has be more useful for Indian brands with a global appeal.Magazines like India Today and Business Today have seen huge response from US and UK within one month after launch.
